Main Task

Excellent work Year 5!

You have learnt about the features of persuasive writing, and read different examples of them. You have also retrieved information from them. Today, we are going to be reminding ourselves of the features, and looking specifically at ‘sizzling starters’. What and how should we start a persuasive text to engage and capture the attention of the reader/audience.

The best way to understand how to produce effective persuasive pieces is to think of the M&S adverts on the television. Watch some examples below and then answer the following questions..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHFKE6PD_6U

*Why do they want to make you buy their product?

*What persuasive language do they use?/ What vocabulary do they use? (adjectives)

*What else makes the advert persuasive? (Imagery, sounds, opinions, language)

*Can you come up with a rhetorical question for each food?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, take a look at the power point below.  It will remind you of some of the features, and then there are two tasks to complete.

Remember – you are not writing the whole persuasive text, just focusing on the opening paragraph. Use today’s powerpoint, and the powerpoint from Tuesday to help you.
