Art – Creating Aboriginal Art
Today, we want to bring together our previous learning to create an original piece of aboriginal art.
Just like the art you studied in the previous lesson before half term, your picture must tell a story!
Follow these links and have a recap on some of the Aboriginal art we have looked at.
And now let’s recap some of the information we have learnt:
Aboriginal Art has survived for over thousands of years and continues to be one of the oldest art forms practiced today.
Aboriginal Art consists of symbols. These symbols were used as a means of communication; communication of their lives on earth, their rituals, food, customs and also to show constellations and for ritual decorations. These works were almost always ceremonial or religious.
Symbols were used in order to show the presence of different things or objects that existed around them.
Unlike the well-known artists you've studied, Aboriginal artists created their works based on how the land was created,
basing their subject matter mainly on patterns and animals.
These patterns and symbols were created using only the colours seen in nature, (for instance soil, was seen in tints of reds, yellows and browns ochres. White, clay and charcoal colours were also used from natural materials.
Thousands of years ago, Aboriginals would create their works using only the natural materials left around them, (such as bark, clay, logs, trees, burnt sticks, rocks, etc....
The backgrounds of these art works were never blank. There is always a continuous use of dotting, patterns, lines or hatching to create a sense of movement within the work. These works of art could be labelled as Abstract.
Let's Create Our Own Aboriginal Works of Art!!
1. Pretend you are living thousands of years ago and need to create a work of art for your ancestors.
2. Choose some of the Aboriginal symbols below to create a storyline.
3. On paper, write down the short story you are choosing to tell with your symbols.
Use the original Aboriginal Art Works as inspiration to get you started.
4. On a new page, draw the symbols you have chosen, and create patterns to tell your story using different lines.
5. Once your lines are drawn, glue down different colours of string or other materials you have at home over the lines to complete your work. If you don’t have any material, you can simply colour over the lines.
6. Make sure all your lines are completely covered in neatly, and you are only using the same colours you would see in nature to complete you work.

1) Open Microsoft Word or any other word processing system you have.
2) Open a file and enter the following text.
THE FOOD YOU EAT
There is an increasing interest in all aspects of the foods we eat and the effect that they have on our bodies. One important element has been identified that poses a danger in our daily life – fast food, lacking vitamins and protein.
Good eating habits help to maintain good health. Poor eating habits - for example, canteen meals and quick snacks - may lead to health problems such as being overweight and having high blood pressure, which are well-known risk factors.
You can take steps to prevent damage to your health, you may wish to follow the clear and simple advice outlined below.
Avoid eating too much fat such as butter, oil, cake, chocolate, potato crisps, eggs, nuts and cheese. Avoid fried foods.
Eat foods high in fibre such as wholemeal breads and cereals, fresh vegetables and fruits, peas, beans, pulses and seeds.
Drink plenty of water instead of cordials and soft drinks; drink alcohol in moderation.
1) Place your name and today’s date at the end of the article.
2) Save your file as FOOD.
3) Make sure the heading is all in capitals and underlined.
4) Make the heading bold and a different colour.
5) In the paragraph beginning Good eating habits ...
a delete the words canteen meals and
b insert a comma after the word overweight and then insert the words
high blood fats (cholesterol) before the words and having high blood pressure.
6) In the paragraph beginning You can take steps ... replace the words You can take steps to prevent damage to with the words In order to safeguard
7) Insert the following paragraph after the paragraph beginning Eat foods high in fibre...
Limit your intake of high salt foods such as cured, corned and canned meats, cheese, salami, and meat pastes. Be careful about the amount of the following that you consume - smoked and canned fish, vegetable extracts, many takeaway meals and snack foods.
8) Save your amended file as Food Updated .
9) Change the font of your passage to Comic Sans.
10) Make the text colour of each paragraph different.
11) A table needs to be inserted after the final paragraph.
Do this by clicking ‘Insert’ then ‘Table’.
12) On a separate line below create a table with 2 columns and 6 rows.
13) Enter the data below in the table
McDonald’s Big Mac
KFC Original fillet burger
Burger King Whopper
McDonald’s Fillet o’ fish
¼ Pounder with cheese
14) Format the headings Product and Fat Content to be in italics.
