School of Sanctuary & Anti-Bullying

What is a School of Sanctuary?

Kensington Community Primary School is a School of Sanctuary!

We were reaccredited with the award of School of Sanctuary in July 2024.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for those seeking sanctuary. It is a space for those whose lives are in danger in their own country, who have problems at home or are just looking for space where they can feel safe.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equally valued members of the school community.

It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.

Black History Month 2024

Each year group in school spent time during Black History Month exploring a black role model.

The theme was 'Reclaiming Narratives'. This marks a significant shift towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture. The children explored role models such as Rosa Parks, Mae Jemison, Wangari Maathai and Martin Luther King Jr.

Anti-Bullying Week 2024

This week, the children focused on the theme 'Choose Respect'.

Friendly Ambassador Service

The Friendly Ambassador Service is a specially selected group of children from Years 5 and 6. They have had training in their role to ensure they carry it out to the best of their ability. They will be available during lunchtime in the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 yard. They will help children if they have a problem, are lonely or just need someone to talk to.
