We wrote a range of poems in English based on Jumanji. We then chose one of our Tanka, Cinquain or Diamanté poems to perform to the rest of the class.

English - Jumanji
Imagine playing a game where each roll of the dice could turn your world upside down. Well this term, our class are reading the original tale of Jamanji by Chris Van Allsburg, This story is about two children who discover a board game that takes them on an adventure they will never forget.
Building on our hard work from the Autumn term, we are looking at how we can use our number skills in a variety of different ways - adding to calculate the perimeter of compound shapes, multiplication to calculate the area and division to identify fractions of a shape and amount. Throughout our learning we will use our resources and drawings to share our understanding and challenge our learning through using our problem solving and reasoning skills.
Geography: What Makes The World Rattle?
This half term we willstudy the effects of earthquakes and tsunamis, studying how they occur and the impact they have on human life. We will locate countries and areas that are prone to earthquakes, inquiring into why and how it happens.
History -Would you have liked to be a child growing up in Ancient Greece?
In this unit of work, we will study what life was like for children in Ancient Greece. We will explore the similarities and differences between their education and our own. To deepen our understanding, we willuse dates and historical language in their work and draw timelines with different time periods outlined to show different information. At the end of the unit of work, the children will share their learning through a whole school performance with Mrs White.
Music -What is musical structure?
As part of our performance, year 5 will work with Mrs White to explore a variety of music that can create different moods and contribute to the overall show.
RE: Where should you pray?
We will explore the different places of worship within religion, so that they can explore and show understanding of similarities and differences within and between different religions. Children will share some of their own experiences and develop a deeper understanding of how other faiths pray in their faith.
In our second unit, we will be discussing the 'Five Pillars of Islam' and how these pillars are essential to the Muslim Faith - celebration, worship, pilgrimages and the rituals based around the faith.
Art - Is graffiti a form of art?
During this unit, we will explore what is needed to create a piece of art, this will include looking at the many different forms of street art and some of the most famous artists involved. From this, the children will be given the opportunity to design their own art in the style of Keith Haring.
Computing - What matters to you?
During the first half of the Spring term, the children will select, use and combine a variety of
software to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish a given goal. These include collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information.
Design Technology - What ingredients would you put in your Greek dish?
Our unit, this term, will support our history topic. As the children learn about the Ancient Greeks, they will also have the opportunity to explore the foods the Greeks enjoyed. This will include, tasting, researching and making their own dishes? Who will have the Greek pallet required to make an amazing dish?
