Welcome to 2H!
We have had a great start to the year by learning about the world around us. Our geography topic is all about weather around the world. We will focus on the Antartic and Artic, the animals that live there and the climate. We will enjoy exploring the atlases to find out where different countries are and why we have different
Let's go back in time! The children learnt about Victorian life and how everyday life is very different now.
This term we are learning about living things and their habitats in science, thinking about the habitats in which animals live. We are also learning about different materials and their uses.
In RE our question is 'What do people believe about God?'. The children will be able to name different beliefs and practices, including festivals, worship, rituals and ways of life. They will be able to explain the meanings behind different beliefs and practices. By the end of December the children will know the Christmas story and the meaning behind some traditions.
In Maths this term we are starting with counting and place value. We will be practising counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s, as well as learning about how to partition numbers, building on our Year 1 knowledge. The children will learn how to add and subtract 2 digit numbers using mental and written methods. They will learn multiplication and division facts for the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times table.
In English we will be reading The Lonely Beast, Lila and the Secret of Rain, The Witch and Silly Billy. We will use these as a stimulus to write exciting sentences and build on our vocabulary. We will also be focusing on using full stops, capital letters, question marks and exclamation marks. The children will also learn how to write poetry.
Phonics will take place everyday. The children will learn new sounds which will help them to read and spell confidently.
Our PE lessons are every Tuesday morning with Mr Chubbuck and Mr O'Shea!
