History in Year 5

How did WW2 have an impact on the Port of Liverpool?

Our History topic this half term, allowed to reasearch how our city was effected by the events of WW2, and what a key role Liverpool played during the war, and its importance as a Port City.

As part of our historical research, we wrote a newspaper report about the Durning Road disaster, which took place very close to our school site. This was the bombing of a Liverpool air raid shelter described by Winston Churchill as the “single worst incident of the war”.

We used our skills as Mathematicians to chronologically order keys dates of WW2, particularly events that took place in Liverpool, and through Philosophy, we empathised and made links with people of the past and developed a deeper understanding of the effects of war.
