Year 1 (Shape)
We all know that Kensington Community Primary is a rather large school and some would even say it can be a bit of a maze at times. Well, Year 1 have come to the rescue because they've explored the entire school and created a map, showing where our classrooms are, where the hall is for lunchtime and assembly and most importantly where the playground is for enquiry time. Well done Year 1!
Year 4 (Co-ordinates)
Finding a classroom in school can sometimes be a tricky task, imagine having to find a location in the whole of the United Kingdom! Well Year 4 have found a sneaky shortcut that helps save a lot of time; using co-ordinates they can find the section of the map even quicker. The children explored everywhere from the mountainous hills of Scotland down to the capital of England
Year 5 (Measure)
I wonder how the rural setting of the Peak District is different to the busy city of Liverpool? Well equipped with meter sticks, tape measures and thermometers, year 5 went to investigate and came back with some rather interesting results (and some rather wet feet).
Year 3 (Comparing and ordering numbers)
Volcanoes are a majestic part of our planet but how much do we actually know about them? The children used fact files about different volcanoes to compare their height, year of its last eruption and eruption cycle times. They played top trumps with these cards. The person with the highest number won the card.
Year 5 Earthquakes
As well as investigating what causes earthquakes, Year 5 have been researching past earthquakes and comparing a range of figures from these events. We have also studied the ways that the strength of an earthquake can be recorded, including the use of a Richter scale.
Year 4 (data handling/temperature)
Year 4 have done a fantastic job of researching many aspects of life in Dubai, including the temperature throughout the year. They helped share this data using a bar chart, to highlight there is quite a difference between England and Dubai's climate.
Year 3 - (Number)
As part of their volcano topic this half term, year 3 have created their own fact cards about different volcanoes from around they world. They have found out: the height of the volcano; its eruption cycle and its last eruption. They used these facts to hold a 'top trump' competition...game on!
Year 3 - Measuring
Cross curricular with DT
Today, Year 3 have been having a Spanish feast. We have made Spanish Easter cakes, Spanish salsa and delicious sangria. We have measured the weight and capacity of the ingredients. We can’t wait to use our cooking and maths skills at home.
As part of our Geography topic about Spain, the children used iPads to help them create a travel plan to get to Spain. They had to work out the time, duration and cost of the flights.
Year 4 - Coordinates
Year 4 have been using their map reading skills this week as part of their geography lesson. They have had to use coordinates from the index to locate particularly rivers in their atlas and effective use of their positional language to describe where it is near to.
Year 6 - Data Handling and Number
Kensington primary is proud to be recognised as a school of sanctuary and a place where we celebrate the diversity of our pupils. In year 6, we took a bit of time to explore where members of our class were born. It was great to discuss the vast variety of languages spoken and the heritage behind places right across the globe. We tried to share some of our findings through using our ratio and percentage skills.
