Year 1 (Measure)
As part of our unit on 'Fairy Tales' we explored a variety of stories that included Little Red Riding Hood and the big, bad wolf, Goldilocks and the three bears and the gingerbread men. We went and bought some ingredients and made our very own gingerbread men. To do this we had to measure out the ingredients and follow a recipe, we also had to cook them in the oven on the right temperature and for the right amount of time.
Year 3 (Time)
This half term we explored the life of Roald Dahl, an author who created a wide range of fantastic books. We have loved reading about the horrible Twits and their cruel selection of pranks that they have played on each other. As part of the unit we used our maths skills to order some of the great landmarks in his career (and there was quite a few).
Year 3 (Measure and money)
Year 3 are loving their novel this half term and there is one thing to enjoy reading a good book but it is even better if you get to help the characters. With a list of resources, the children in year 3 have been making purchases to make their characters a shelter from the weather. It is a tricky challenge, as they need to stay dry but they also have to stay within budget. Well done year 3!
Year 4 (measure)
Year 4 have been using their knowledge of mass to help the iron man. The children have loved their class novel but enjoyed saving the day even more. In this lesson, the children had to select the right amount of items to help put the iron man back together. The interesting thing is...is there only one answer?
Year 6 - Data Handling
World Book Day was the perfect opportunity to do some cross curricular English. Our year 6's explored a variety of books from authors they love to find out 'Who on average uses the longest words?'. To complete this task the children had to take a random sample, tally the results and the find the mean. The children showed real resilience and were quite surprised by the results.
